In the beginning of the summer of 2000 we heard about a
Sheltie that was being very neglected. This dog had many health
problems, including crooked and missing teeth that she received by being
kicked in the mouth by an abusive owner. We opened our home and our
heart to this dog, and in the course of her rehabilitation she stole our
hearts. That Sheltie was LaCota, and it was because of her that the
Susquehanna Valley Collie and Sheltie rescue was started.

We decided that we would
accept Collies and Shelties from private homes as well as shelters and
Humane Societies, as long as they were in need. We want to save them
from as much confusion, stress and pain as possible, and after all, if we
would not help them because they were in a private home, they would just
end up at the shelter or perhaps dumped at the roadside. Since
organizing in June of 2000 we have rescued 26 Collies and Shelties, with
most of them already placed in "Forever Homes".
We have many wonderful foster
homes that care for these animals until they are found permanent homes.
All of our Collies and Shelties are spayed/neutered before being
adopted out, and we do require an adoption agreement, vet reference, and
pre-adoption inspection before an animal is placed.
The Susquehanna Valley Collie
and Sheltie Rescue is a registered Pennsylvania non-profit, recognized as
a tax exempt 'Pure Public Charity' by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,
and has a pending application for 501(c)(3) non-profit status. If
you would like more information on adopting one of our animals, or
becoming a foster home, please contact us at: info@svcsr.org
